After reading your linked Hitchens article regarding the demise of Jerry Falwell I dismissed Hitchens as a damn near psychotic, intellectual assassin. And then this. Yet such is the case with Hitchens. He either pisses you off ("you insensitive asshole!" or revs you up ("Yeah! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!") There simply isn't another writer, pundit or journalist that has that effect on me.
You should read H.L. Mencken's obituary of William Jennings Bryan. A vicious hit piece if there ever was one.
And yeah, Hitchens is quite provocative, especially when going after weak targets. It's kind of like watching a German Shepherd maul a child with grace, artistry and style. It's a rare quality in a writer.
